Kelly & Evan

It's a classic love story, two people swiped right. After a short period of texting, we met up for a date at Lost Boy Cider. Turns out it had already been a favorite place for each of us! We spent the day smiling and laughing, each of us knowing that we wanted to see each other again.

Evan popped the question on Saturday, June 24th, 2023.

Evan: Kelly plans everything, so I knew I had to trick her so she wouldn't suspect anything. I arranged for Jane, one of Kelly's best friends who was visiting town, to make dinner plans with Kelly for the three of us - and then for her to drop out at the last minute - leaving the two of us out to dinner with an opportunity for a post dinner walk. I figured if she made the plans then she wouldn't suspect a thing.

Kelly: And I wouldn't have suspected a thing… except he started cleaning the house during the day unprompted AND he decided to wear a button down shirt to dinner "because he wanted to look nice for my friends"

Evan: It rained the entire week leading up to the 24th, but rain or shine, the time and place was set. The day arrived, and fortunately the weather was cooperative.

Kelly: Oh yeah, he also insisted on bringing an umbrella with us for the first time in our lives.

Evan: Dinner plans went off without a hitch, Jane texted an excuse to not show up at the last minute, so we had a nice dinner at one of our favorite Old Town restaurants.

Kelly: Jane's text was ridiculous😂 - it started with "Kelly, something terrible has happened…" In 20 years of being friends, she has never once sent me a text that started with a salutation, so I now officially knew something was up.

Evan: She even commented "what a lovely date that Jane set us up on".

Kelly: I don't remember this at all.

Evan: But she was also unsure because she was the one who planned the dinner.

Kelly: Inception! To Evan's credit he carried on like everything was normal telling me "Jane was clearly in distress." We finished dinner, and of course I wanted dessert, so he patiently waited for another course to finish before the proposal.

Evan: FINALLY, after we finished dinner and dessert I suggested a walk down to the waterfront "because it was such a nice day."

Kelly: It was 95 degrees outside and humid.

Evan: True. At this point I knew that she knew. We walked down to the waterfront, but because it was the first time in 4 days it wasn't raining, the place was packed! So I suggested we just keep walking to find a quiet spot.

Kelly: After what felt like forever, I decided to give him a hard time and ask if we should just go back to the car because it was so hot🤣

Evan: Yeah, rude. But we kept going, and eventually reached a quiet spot. Kelly turned to me and said "it's now or never" so I went for it.

Kelly: I started crying immediately and heard nothing he said, but I said yes!

Evan: And then she asked me to repeat the whole proposal again.

Kelly: And he did! And now we're engaged!

Evan: And then we hoofed it back to the car for a suprise engagement party with friends.
